Most deals on doskio go smoothly. These rules protect you from the few fraudsters.

The five most important rules

  1. Meet in person, inspect the item, then pay. Ideally in daylight in a busy place.
  2. No advance payments to strangers. No bank transfers, no PayPal “Friends and Family”, no gift cards.
  3. Stay in the doskio messaging system. Anyone who immediately wants to switch to WhatsApp or Telegram is often not genuine.
  4. Do not click links in messages that supposedly lead to a payment, delivery or “safe payment”. doskio never sends such links.
  5. Never share ID photos, bank details or codes. Not even SMS codes – not even “for verification”.

Typical scams

Scam How to recognise it
Fake delivery service The buyer sends a link where you are supposed to “receive the money”. It asks for your card details.
Overpayment The buyer supposedly paid too much and asks you to send back the difference. The first payment is later reversed.
Too cheap New items or puppies far below market price, seller “currently abroad”, shipping only after prepayment.
Deposit for a flat Viewing only after a deposit, keys “sent by post”.
Fake job High pay for receiving parcels, opening accounts or forwarding money – that is money laundering.
SMS code Someone asks you for a code from an SMS. It is used to take over your account.

When selling

  • Count cash at handover; for large amounts check the notes or meet at a bank branch.
  • For shipping, accept only PayPal “Goods and Services” or payment that has arrived in your account.
  • Only ship once the money is actually in your account – do not rely on a screenshot.

When buying

  • Check the item before paying; switch on electronics, compare papers and chassis number (VIN) for vehicles.
  • For animals: ask to see the mother, check the vaccination record and microchip, never buy without a viewing.
  • With businesses, look for the legal notice (Impressum) and the “Business” badge.
